Another favorite place for both Lena and I (maybe because we had gone there on our first date!) is Seaport Village in downtown San Diego.
Actually, we had our first photo taken together at this same spot by the pond back in November 1998.
Of the many unique gift shops in Seaport Village, this coffee cup shop has a wide selection of novel hand-made cups from which to choose.
A view of the Marriott Hotel with the boats tied up in the harbor is always an interesting view.
What can be more American than POPCORN?
Well, PRETZELS might also run a close second!
While checking out the selection of towels in one of the shops in Seaport Village, Anya...
...met her first “perfect” DATE!
While we did not use the service, it is possible to have a ride around the Seaport Village area in a horse-drawn carriage.
We all enjoyed seeing this huge stuffed bear smoking a cigar in the window of one of the hotel shops.
From the top of the hotel, we had a nice (but, slightly hazy) view of the Coronado Bridge and the boats.
From the other side of the hotel we showed Anya the entrance to San Diego’s Harbor (in the upper left of the photo), Point Loma, North Island Naval Air Station, and Coronado (as well as Seaport Village in the foreground).
After a day of sight-seeing, we took Anya to another one of our favorite restaurants... OSCARS...so that she could try their famous roasted chicken, pizza, Greek salad, and homemade BREAD ROLLS!
As Lena likes to say, “There *ARE* advantages to having KIDS!” In this photo Anya was helping to wash Lena’s car...
...and here she is busily taking care of cutting the roses in our front yard.
No trip to San Diego would be complete without at least a quick walk across the border into Tiajuna to check out the products and to shop in Mexico.
The shops located in the newer plaza area adjacent to the border were the first place we hit.
While all these same products can be found in the stores across the bridge in downtown Tiajuna, it is nice to look at these shops first.
Of course, women have to try on HATS...
...and more hats...
...and even MORE HATS!
Anya liked one of the small novelties being sold by this street vendor and picked it up for her (and Lena’s) apartment back in Moscow.
Piñatas (which are filled with candy and then broken with a stick at Mexican parties for children) are always colorful and unique items not found in most other parts of the United States.
Anya had to ‘see how she would look’ in this colorful Mexican traditional dress.
